Tokyo, June 20 (Jiji Press)--Matsuya Foods Holdings Co. <9887> said Thursday that it has become the first Japanese "gyudon" beef-on-rice bowl restaurant chain to open such a restaurant in Russia.

Its first outlet opened in Moscow. Matsuya Foods will consider increasing gyudon restaurants in the country depending on how the first one fares.

Russia does not have many authentic Japanese food restaurants despite growing interests in Japanese food culture, the company said, adding that demand for Japanese dishes has not been met there.

Matsuya Foods concluded a franchise contract with a Russian company through Hokkaido General Trading Co., a regional trading company in the northern Japan city of Sapporo.

Most of the ingredients used in the Moscow restaurant will be procured in Russia.
