Next-Generation Sushiro Outlet Counts Dishes Automatically

Osaka, June 25 (Jiji Press)--Japanese sushi-go-round restaurant chain operator Akindo Sushiro Co. unveiled on Tuesday a next-generation outlet featuring automated systems for payment and handover of takeout dishes.

At the remodeled Sushiro outlet in Itami, Hyogo Prefecture, set to start operation on Wednesday, an image recognition system counts the number of dishes taken by customers from the conveyor belt to determine how much they should pay.

Any other existing conveyor-belt sushi restaurant uses the technology, the company said.

The outlet in the western Japan city also saves labor and reduces takeout customers' waiting times by allowing them to receive dishes ordered and payed online when they show quick response, or QR, codes sent to their smartphones.

Furthermore, kitchen operations are smoother than before, with the dish-carrying belt extended closer to cooks.
