Krakow, Poland, June 29 (Jiji Press)--Japanese Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko, now on an official trip to Poland, visited Krakow, an old city in the southern part of the European country, on Saturday.

After arriving in Krakow on a commercial flight from Warsaw around noon local time, the couple went to Jagiellonian University, the oldest university in Poland, where Renaissance-era Polish astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus, who presented the heliocentric theory, studied.

They visited a museum introducing the history of the university and had talks with the president of the university.

The Crown Prince and Crown Princess then moved to Krakow's old city center and interacted with people who happened to be there. Crown Princess Kiko shook hands with a number of people, including tourists.

Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko later attended a lunch meeting hosted by the mayor of Krakow, and visited the Wawel Castle, used as the residence of past Polish kings, and Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology.
