Facebook Japan Joins Keidanren

Tokyo, July 1 (Jiji Press)--Facebook Japan, the Japanese unit of U.S. social media giant Facebook Inc., said Monday it joined the Japan Business Federation, better known as Keidanren, the same day.

Of the four U.S. technology companies collectively known as GAFA, Google LLC, Apple Inc. and Amazon.com Inc. had already become members of the biggest business lobby in Japan through their Japanese units.

Facebook Japan said in a statement that it will contribute to further growth in the Japanese economy and society by coordinating closely with other Keidanren members.

In November last year, Keidanren eased its membership requirements in order to accept a wider variety of companies so that its policy proposals will reach a wider audience.

With stricter regulations for GAFA being discussed around the world, Facebook Japan apparently hopes to strengthen its cooperation with the Japanese government and economic groups by obtaining Keidanren membership.
