55 M. Yen Stolen from Seven-Eleven Mobile Payment Users
Tokyo, July 4 (Jiji Press)--Seven & i Holdings Co. <3382> said Thursday some 900 users of its new smartphone payment service have lost a total of 55 million yen due to unauthorized access.
The 7pay barcode payment service started just on Monday at over 20,000 Seven-Eleven Japan Co. convenience stores nationwide.
In the service, users deposit money in their 7pay accounts by using credit cards or paying the amounts of money they want to load in their smartphones in cash at cash registers or by other means.
Seven Pay Co., the 7pay operator, stopped user registration and depositing services to prioritize work to identify the cause of the illegal access, mainly from foreign countries including China.
The money already deposited can be used, according to the company.
