Japan Used Vehicle Sales Down 0.3 Pct in Jan.-June

Tokyo, July 10 (Jiji Press)--Used vehicle sales in Japan in January-June fell 0.3 pct from a year earlier to 1,976,716 units, hitting the fourth-lowest level on a first-half basis, the Japan Automobile Dealers Association said Wednesday.

The first-half sales were down for the second consecutive year.

Sales of passenger cars edged up 0.2 pct to 1,743,708 units. Sales of cars with an engine displacement of over 2,000 cc grew 3.6 pct, up for the fifth straight year, but sales of smaller cars fell 3.8 pct as the number of new models was limited in the category.

Truck sales were down 3.6 pct at 189,826 units. Sales of buses fell 4.7 pct to 6,976 units.

Minivehicles, with an engine displacement of up to 660 cc, were not covered by the survey.
