INTERVIEW: NTT Docomo to Review Mobile Fee Plans
Tokyo, July 12 (Jiji Press)--NTT Docomo Inc. <9437> President Kazuhiro Yoshizawa has indicated that the major Japanese mobile phone carrier will review its fee plans in line with the implementation of the revised telecommunications business law this autumn.
Specifically, the firm will revamp its new plans featuring reduced fees introduced in June, in accordance with new rules on contract cancellation charges, he said in a recent interview.
Yoshizawa avoided direct comment on whether to further lower fees, saying that NTT Docomo will study the matter while watching moves by cybermall operator Rakuten Inc. <4755>, which is slated to launch its mobile phone service in October.
He expressed support for the government's policy of spurring competition for fee reductions among mobile phone operators.
"We need to focus on motivating customers to use our services for a long period," Yoshizawa said, stressing that the company will continue to work on strengthening its point program and other non-telecommunications operations.
