Tokyo, July 18 (Jiji Press)--Toyota Motor Corp. <7203> on Thursday unveiled a new electric vehicle developed for use at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Named the Accessible People Mover, or APM, the vehicle resembles a minibus and will be used to ferry people such as the elderly, children and pregnant women across short distances within large sports venues.
The APM has three rows of seats, holding a total of six riders, including the driver. The Japanese automaker expects volunteers to be drivers of the vehicle.
It can run up to 100 kilometers on a single charge, with the maximum speed set at 19 kilometers per hour.
The floor of the APM is low, making it easy to get on and off. A slope for passengers in wheelchairs is stored under the floor.
