Tokyo, July 19 (Jiji Press)--UD Trucks said Friday that it will conduct a test for Level 4 advanced self-driving technology using a heavy-duty truck in Hokkaido, northernmost Japan.
The trial will be carried out in cooperation with Nippon Express Co. <9062> and the Hokuren Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives, a group in Hokkaido, according to the commercial vehicle maker affiliated with Swedish automaker AB Volvo.
Level 4 technology allows a vehicle to drive automatically in specific areas.
Through the trial, UD, based in the city of Ageo, Saitama Prefecture, eastern Japan, aims to confirm issues that need to be cleared before putting the technology into practical use.
This will be the first Level 4 test using a large truck in Japan, according to the company.
