Kyoto, July 19 (Jiji Press)--The Kyoto prefectural police department on Friday revealed the identity of the man suspected of setting ablaze a Kyoto Animation Co. studio the previous day as 41-year-old Shinji Aoba.

A total of 33 people have been confirmed dead in the incident. The police said that all of the victims were employees of the well-known animation company based in the city of Uji in the western Japan prefecture.

Also on Friday, the police department launched an investigation headquarters comprising some 100 officers for the alleged homicide and arson case that hit the anime studio in Fushimi Ward in the city of Kyoto, the capital of the prefecture.

The police disclosed the suspect's name despite not yet having obtained an arrest warrant for the man. The department took the rare move as it "considered the seriousness of the incident," an official explained.

The suspect's address and occupation are unknown, but he was found carrying a driver's license showing that he is a resident of the city of Saitama, north of Tokyo.
