Variety of Foods to Be Served for Athletes in Tokyo Games
Tokyo, July 26 (Jiji Press)--The 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic organizing committee plans to serve a variety of foods from all over the world at a cafeteria in the athletes' village.
The committee aims to draft the menu by the end of August and gain approval from the International Olympic Committee in November.
According to a basic plan adopted on Thursday, the cafeteria will have main and casual dining areas.
At the main dining area, about 600 to 700 kinds of foods including vegetarian, Halal and gluten-free dishes, will be available. With foods cooked in a way that brings the best out of ingredients, more than 60 seasonings will be prepared.
The casual dining area will feature Japanese food culture, serving items that are commonly eaten in Japan on an everyday basis, such as "onigiri" rice balls, noodle dishes and "okonomiyaki" pancakes. Cold "somen" and "udon" noodles will help athletes to beat the heat.
