JR Bookings Up 2 Pct during "Bon" Summer Holiday
Tokyo, July 26 (Jiji Press)--The number of seats reserved for trains of the six passenger service firms of the Japan Railways, or JR, Group during this year's "bon" summer holiday period in mid-August is up 2 pct from the year-before level, the companies said Friday.
As of Thursday, some 3.51 million seats were booked for the Aug. 9-18 period.
The rise is partly because people find it easier to take relatively long holidays thanks to a three-day weekend including a national holiday during the period.
Demand is seen peaking on Aug. 10 for outbound trains and on Aug. 15 for inbound trains.
Some 2.8 million seats are booked for Shinkansen bullet trains, up one pct, and 700,000 seats for other trains, up 4 pct.
