Parasols for Men Gaining Some Traction in Japan
Newsfrom JapanSociety Lifestyle
Tokyo, Aug. 4 (Jiji Press)--Some men seem to have started using parasols in Japan, where the umbrellas to block the sun have traditionally been items for women, although it is believed to take time for the country to see a sharp increase in male users of parasols.
The sweltering summer heat is hitting the Japanese archipelago as this year's rainy season has ended.
The country's Environment Ministry has been calling on men to use parasols to reduce health damage from the heat wave.
There have been some signs of parasols for men gaining popularity, partly as Father's Day gifts in June.
At the Matsuzakaya department store in Tokyo's Ueno district, sales of men's parasols in March-June this year almost doubled from the year-before level. Sales as Father's Day gifts posted an increase of about five-fold.
