Summer Sun Driving up Demand for Sunscreen Even from Men

Tokyo, Aug. 5 (Jiji Press)--The arrival of summer sun is driving up demand for sunscreen products, from not only women but men.

Sales of sunscreen products in Japan have risen since 2015 and shown signs of continued growth, an official at private research company Fuji Keizai Co. said.

"More people are now aware that ultra violet rays can do a lot of damage to the skin, causing spots and dullness," a sales department official at major Japanese cosmetics maker Kose Corp. <4922> said. "Blocking UV rays is becoming a common practice by people of all ages."

Also behind the robust demand for sunscreen products is increasing aesthetic consciousness among fans of "Hanryu" Korean stars, who generally keep their skin white and smooth, observers said.

Customers now can choose from many types of products with diverse functions, such as effects of brightening skin and making users feel cool.
