Tokyo, Aug. 8 (Jiji Press)--Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc. <9501> and three other firms are considering jointly setting up a new company to construct and manage a planned nuclear power plant in Aomori Prefecture, northeastern Japan, informed sources said Thursday.

The three others are Chubu Electric Power Co. <9502>, Hitachi Ltd. <6501> and Toshiba Corp. <6502>, the sources said.

Under the four companies' plan, the new firm will build and run the Higashidori nuclear plant. TEPCO has suspended its construction in the wake of the March 2011 triple meltdown at its Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant.

The move by the four companies may lead to realignment of the nuclear power industry in the country.

The four firms have experience in managing or supplying boiling-water nuclear reactors, the same type as the Fukushima reactors.
