Japan Post Scraps FY 2019 Catalog Sales Quotas

Tokyo, Aug. 14 (Jiji Press)--Japan Post Co. has abolished fiscal 2019 sales quotas for catalog sales assigned to post offices, according to informed sources.

The decision, announced Tuesday, followed the abolition of such quotas for insurance products of Japan Post Insurance Co. <7181> offered at post offices due to inappropriate sales practices.

The measure is aimed at "giving the highest priority to dealing with customers," a Japan Post official said.

In the catalog service, customers pick gift items listed on catalogs and flyers placed at post offices, with the items delivered by Japan Post.

To meet the sales quotas, some post office workers purchased items in the catalog service at their own costs, as well as postcards for New Year's greetings.
