Economy

Tokyo, Aug. 19 (Jiji Press)--Major Japanese seasoning maker Ajinomoto Co. <2802> said Monday that it will invest some 355 million ringgit to build a new plant in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia, to enhance its development and output of halal products.

The plant will take over operations at Ajinomoto's existing factory in Kuala Lumpur, starting in April 2022.

The new plant will produce seasoning products including the Ajinomoto brand. The company did not disclose the new plant's production capacity.

Through the new plant, Ajinomoto will boost the development of products that suit local tastes in Southeast Asian countries.

The company has not yet decided when it will close the Kuala Lumpur plant. About 600 workers at the plant will remain employed.
