Tokyo, Aug. 22 (Jiji Press)--Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc. <9501> said Thursday that it will sell electricity to households in the Tohoku northeastern and Kyushu southwestern Japan regions.

The group's retail power service, provided through subsidiary TEPCO Energy Partner Inc. will cover the home areas of Tohoku Electric Power Co. <9506> and Kyushu Electric Power Co. <9508>.

Specifically, TEPCO's service will be available in the Tohoku region's six prefectures, the neighboring central Japan prefecture of Niigata and the seven prefectures in the Kyushu region, excluding remote islands. Applications will be accepted from Friday.

Outside its own home turf of the greater Tokyo area, TEPCO sells electricity in the Kansai western and Chubu central regions covered by Kansai Electric Power Co. <9503> and Chubu Electric Power Co. <9502>, respectively.

TEPCO's latest move is aimed at boosting its earnings power amid intensifying competition following the full liberalization of electricity retailing in 2016.
