Tokyo, Aug. 22 (Jiji Press)--Nissan Motor Co. <7201> said Thursday it has developed a system in which any golf putt will lead the ball into the cup by capitalizing on its self-driving technologies.
To highlight its technological capabilities with the system, the major Japanese automaker started releasing a promotional movie on its website the same day.
Nissan will set up a corner for people to experience putts that never fail at its headquarters in Yokohama, south of Tokyo, for four days from Aug. 29.
In the system, a camera recognizes the locations of a putted ball embedded with a motor and the cup, and a computer calculates the correct trajectory for the ball by taking into account the strength of the putt and other factors to guide it to the cup through wireless transmission
Nissan has already put into practical use a technology that enables hands-off driving while cruising in a given express way lane and leads the car to an exit in accordance with a route set by the car navigation system. The company got an idea for the golf technology from it.
