Unitika Manipulated Product Inspection Data

Osaka, Aug. 29 (Jiji Press)--Japanese textile maker Unitika Ltd. <3103> has manipulated inspection data for products including polyester short fiber used for abrasives so that heat efficiency and other features met customer standards.

While becoming aware of the wrongdoings in autumn last year, Unitika had not disclosed the misconduct as it judged that there were no safety problems, the company said Wednesday.

According to Unitika, data manipulations were found for polyester short fiber in October 2018 and for nonwoven fabrics in January 2019, at the company and a subsidiary.

Employees involved in product quality management committed the wrongdoings so that the products were available before delivery dates.

The wrongdoings continued for more than five years.
