Roster of Japan Rugby Team Members Released for World Cup
Tokyo, Aug. 29 (Jiji Press)--The Japan Rugby Football Union released on Thursday the final list of the national team's members for the 2019 Rugby World Cup, which will kick off in Japan on Sept. 20.
Twenty-one of the 31 members will play in the World Cup for the first time, while the other 10 experienced the 2015 World Cup, in which the Japanese team won three matches, including a stunning victory against South Africa.
The 2019 team includes a record 15 descendants of non-Japanese.
As in the 2015 World Cup, the Japanese squad will be captained by flanker Michael Leitch, 30, from the Toshiba Brave Lupus in Japan's top league.
Lock Luke Thompson, 38, from the Kintetsu Liners, will appear as a member of the Japanese team in the World Cup for a fourth time.
