Sukiya to Keep Tax-Included Regular "Gyudon" Price Unchanged
Tokyo, Sept. 3 (Jiji Press)--Japan's Zensho Holdings Co. <7550> said Tuesday it will keep the tax-included price of the mainstay regular-size "gyudon" beef-on-rice bowls at its Sukiya gyudon restaurants unchanged after a consumption tax hike.
Zensho's price policy is aimed at curbing consumer confusion about prices and an expected decrease in restaurant customers after the Oct. 1 tax increase.
The regular-size gyudon price including tax will remain 350 yen after Japan raises the tax to 10 pct from 8 pct while leaving the rate for food and some other items steady at 8 pct.
Under the two-tier rate system, the rate of 10 pct will apply to food consumed inside restaurants and 8 pct to takeout items.
Zensho will set the same tax-included price for the eat-in and takeout regular-size gyudon by lowering the eat-in price before tax.
