JOC Pres. Vows to Step Up Preparations for Tokyo Games
Vladivostok, Russia, Sept. 4 (Jiji Press)--Japanese Olympic Committee President Yasuhiro Yamashita expressed readiness on Wednesday to make the right preparations for a successful 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Speaking at a meeting of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, in Russia's Far East, Yamashita said, "We will make preparations so that athletes can show maximum performances in their best condition."
Yamashita, a judo gold medalist at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, has a good relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who likes judo.
Yamashita said he met Putin during his stay in Japan to attend the Group of 20 summit in Osaka, western Japan in late June.
Putin congratulated Yamashita on assuming the post of JOC president, according to Yamashita. He said he told Putin that he hopes to promote sports interactions between Japan and Russia.
