Seoul, Sept. 5 (Jiji Press)--The number of Japanese vehicles newly registered in South Korea in August tumbled 56.9 pct year on year to 1,398 units, data from the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association have revealed.

The rate of decline expanded sharply from July's 17.2 pct.

Ongoing moves among South Koreans to boycott Japanese products have fully started to have impacts on sales of Japanese vehicles, South Korean media reported.

By brand, sales decreased 59.1 pct to 542 units for Toyota, 80.9 pct to 138 units for Honda and 87.4 pct to 58 units for Nissan.

Meanwhile, sales of Lexus-brand luxury vehicles rose 7.7 pct to 603 units.
