Voice Actress Aya Hirano Named "Cool Japan" Ambassador
Tokyo, Sept. 9 (Jiji Press)--Japanese voice actress and singer Aya Hirano was named on Monday as ambassador for the government's "Cool Japan" strategy of promoting the country's attractions, including anime, abroad.
"I want to spread Japan's charms by attending overseas anime events, among other occasions," Hirano said at an appointment ceremony, held at the Cabinet Office in Tokyo.
Takuya Hirai, minister in charge of the Cool Japan initiative, said he hopes that Hirano will "actively work to make Japan's leading content known to people abroad and win their support."
Hirano is known for providing the voice of the title character of "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya," one of the most famous works from Kyoto Animation Co., a renowned anime production company in Japan.
