Typhoon Damage Reaches 12.6 B. Yen in Chiba

Chiba, Sept. 11 (Jiji Press)--Damage from Typhoon Faxai to the agriculture and forestry industries in the eastern Japan prefecture of Chiba has reached at least 12.6 billion yen, prefectural government officials said Wednesday.

The 15th typhoon of the year, which slammed into the vicinity of Chiba, the prefecture's capital, east of Tokyo, early Monday morning, is one of the biggest typhoons to have landed in the Kanto region including Chiba and Tokyo.

According to the officials, damage from the latest typhoon is believed to far exceed the record 4.6 billion yen caused to the prefecture's agriculture, forestry and fishing industries by two typhoons in October 2017.

The damage from the latest typhoon is seen expanding further, the officials said.

In the city of Yachimata, many fields of peanuts, a specialty of the prefecture, were damaged.
