Tokyo, Sept. 12 (Jiji Press)--Japanese games company Konami Holdings Corp. <9766> said Thursday it will open an esports school in Tokyo's posh Ginza shopping district next April.

The school will aim to "foster a diverse array of human resources that are necessary for the further development of esports, including players, live commentators and management and operating staff for competitions," Konami said.

The school will be a key facility in an esports complex set to open next January in Konami's new business base under construction in Ginza.

Applications will be accepted online. Eligible are those who understand Japanese and have graduated from junior high school.

The esports school will have a full-time one-year course that will accept up to 80 students and a short-term course with night and weekend classes intended for corporate and other workers and students of other schools.
