Ho Chi Minh City, Sept. 13 (Jiji Press)--Mitsubishi Motors Corp. <7211> Chairman Osamu Masuko has said he hopes Nissan Motor Co. <7201> will switch to a new management team by the end of October, as planned, to deter potential setbacks in talks with French automaker Renault SA.

"I strongly hope that no new delays emerge in alliance discussions (with Renault)," Masuko said to reporters Thursday during his visit to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, speaking about Nissan President Hiroto Saikawa's planned resignation over a pay scandal.

Mitsubishi, Nissan and Renault are in a three-way alliance.

The successor to Saikawa "must have the understanding that the alliance is necessary," Masuko said. "(The successor) must also have both respect for others and common sense."

On discussions with other members of the alliance, Masuko said, "What is best for me is not necessarily best for the other two companies." The three automakers should respect each other's circumstances in future talks, he added.
