Top Court Reverses Verdict Favoring Govt over Isahaya Gates

Tokyo, Sept. 13 (Jiji Press)--The Supreme Court on Friday reversed a Fukuoka High Court ruling in 2018 that favored the government over the state-managed Isahaya Bay reclamation project in Nagasaki Prefecture, southwestern Japan, sending the case back to the high court.

The top court's Second Petty Bench issued the latest ruling in a lawsuit presided over by Justice Hiroyuki Kanno, following the same panel's decision in two other related lawsuits in June not to allow the floodgates built under the project to be opened.

In the lawsuit, the central government seeks to invalidate a ruling by the same high court in 2010 that ordered the state to open the gates of the Isahaya Bay dike.
