Pope Francis to Visit Japan from Nov. 23
Paris, Sept. 13 (Jiji Press)--Pope Francis will make a four-day visit to Japan from Nov. 23, including the atomic bombed cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Vatican said Friday.
In the western and southwestern Japan cities, the pope will mourn the victims of the U.S. atomic bombings in August 1945 in the closing days of World War II.
It will be the first time for a pontiff to visit Japan since the late Pope John Paul II came to the country in February 1981. For Pope Francis, this will be the first Japan visit.
Pope Francis will arrive in Tokyo on Nov. 23 after visiting Thailand. After going to Hiroshima and Nagasaki, he will leave Japan on Nov. 26.
The Vatican has yet to disclose a detailed itinerary.
