Osaka, Sept. 20 (Jiji Press)--J. Front Retailing Co. <3086> on Friday opened a new Daimaru department store building in Osaka that was rebuilt from a 1933 masterpiece of U.S.-born architect William Merrell Vories.

The new Daimaru Shinsaibashi Store building in the western Japan city features eye-catching interior decorations and houses many luxury brand shops, aiming to meet demand from a growing number of visitors from overseas.

Other features include colorful food space on an underground level and selling space planning under the concept of experience-based spending.

An opening ceremony for the new building was held on the day, attended by J. Front Retailing President Ryoichi Yamamoto and others.

Among visitors on the opening day was a housewife in her 40s from neighboring Nara Prefecture. "I was eagerly waiting for the reopening of the department store where my grandmother made preparations for her wedding ceremony," she said.
