Mercian to Open Winery in Nagano, Central Japan

Tokyo, Sept. 20 (Jiji Press)--Japanese winemaker Mercian Corp. will open its third winery in Ueda, Nagano Prefecture, central Japan, on Saturday.

The two-story facility, Chateau Mercian Mariko Winery, allows visitors to taste wines while enjoying views of the surrounding vineyard.

The Kirin Holdings Co. <2503> subsidiary expects 20,000 to 30,000 visitors annually.

Eight types of grapes are grown in the vineyard.

Visitors will be offered a tour to learn the wine-making process. The winery also has a tasting room and a store.
