Manes of Retired Famous Racehorses in Hokkaido Cut Off

Sapporo, Sept. 21 (Jiji Press)--Four retired famous racehorses in Hokkaido, northernmost Japan, have been found with their manes partially chopped off, prefectural police and other sources said Saturday.

All of the four won top-tier Grade One races in Japan in the past.

Some of the manes may have been put up for sale on Mercari Inc.'s <4385> online flea market, the sources said.

The police are investigating the cases on suspicion of destruction of property.

A caretaker at a farm in Hidaka found Sunday that manes had been partially cut off from Taiki Shuttle and Rose Kingdom, the sources said. An affected racehorse was found at another farm in the town on Friday.
