Japan's Yoshinoya to Begin 10 Pct Gyudon Discount Campaign

Economy

Tokyo, Sept. 24 (Jiji Press)--Japan's Yoshinoya Holdings Co. <9861> said Tuesday it will begin a 10-pct discount campaign for its "gyudon" beef-on-rice bowls and "gyusara" beef plate meals Oct. 1 at its restaurants nationwide.

The campaign, whose start will coincide with the consumption tax hike to 10 pct from 8 pct, is set to end at 3 p.m. Oct. 15 (6 a.m. GMT).

During the period, the eat-in price of regular-size gyudon bowls will stand at 347 yen including tax, down from 387 yen, and the takeout price at 341 yen, down from 380 yen.

The campaign will not cover other items on the menu.

Yoshinoya will not join a government-financed reward point program for cashless payments designed to reduce the impact of the tax hike on consumer spending.
