JR West, Alibaba Tie Up on Tourism in Japan

Osaka, Sept. 24 (Jiji Press)--West Japan Railway Co. <9021>, or JR West, and Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. said Tuesday they have formed an alliance to draw more Chinese visitors to western Japan.

Alibaba said it aims to increase the number of Chinese visitors to the region to eight million, including one million JR West users, in fiscal 2022, which ends in March 2023.

Through the alliance, JR West will design travel packages utilizing tourist attractions in the area for Alibaba. The Japanese company will also encourage its group firms to introduce Alibaba's Alipay mobile payment service.

Alibaba plans to set up a JR West online store on its shopping site to provide the Japanese railway firm with marketing information.

The Chinese company tied up with Kyushu Railway Co. <9142>, or JR Kyushu, last year.
