Watami Founder Watanabe to Come Back as CEO

Tokyo, Sept. 27 (Jiji Press)--Japanese bar and restaurant chain Watami Co. <7522> said Friday that founder Miki Watanabe will come back as chief executive officer from Tuesday after an eight-year break.

Watanabe will set a long-term vision, tapping his experience at the House of Councillors, where he used to be a member, Watami officials said.

President Kuniaki Shimizu will double as chief operating officer from October. Watanabe and Shimizu will lead the company together.

Watanabe left the CEO post in February 2011 and stepped down as chairman in June 2013 to run in an Upper House election the next month.

He did not join the Upper House race in July this year. His nomination as director was approved at a general meeting of shareholders in June.
