Hitachi Elevator in China Recognized as World's Fastest
Tokyo, Sept. 27 (Jiji Press)--Japan's Hitachi Ltd. <6501> said Friday an elevator it supplied to a skyscraper in Guangzhou, China, has been recognized as the world's fastest by Guinness World Records.
The elevator ascends at a speed of 1,260 meters per minute, or 75.6 kilometers per hour, traveling between the first and 95th floor, 440 meters high, in some 42 seconds, according to Hitachi.
The elevator broke the record held by Japanese industry peer Mitsubishi Electric Corp. <6503> for its elevator in a skyscraper in Shanghai that travels at a speed of 1,230 meters per minute, or 73.8 kilometers per hour.
China is the biggest elevator market in the world, Hitachi said.
