Nagato, Yamaguchi Pref., Oct. 4 (Jiji Press)--Hoshino Resorts Inc. on Friday announced details of a hotel to be opened in Nagato, Yamaguchi Prefecture, western Japan, in March 2020 as part of a public-private plan to revive a long-established hot spring resort.

The four-story new hotel, Hoshino Resort Kai Nagato, has 40 rooms, with an annex having 10 rooms with outdoor bathes. With overnight stays starting from 20,000 yen, the company aims to attract female guests in their 30s to 50s and families.

The hotel will also prepare a cafe that can be used by nonguests, as well as a "kawadoko" balcony over a river, in an effort to revitalize the whole resort by attracting more guests.

The Nagato Yumoto Onsen resort is said to have a history of 600 years, but the annual number of hotel guests has dropped to some 200,000 in recent years, about half of peak levels.

The Nagato city government has been redeveloping the resort based on a plan by Hoshino Resorts, aiming to make it a place where visitors can stroll and enjoy shopping and eating out.
