Hosts Japan Mark 3rd Straight Rugby World Cup Win
Toyota, Aichi Pref., Oct. 5 (Jiji Press)--Hosts Japan on Saturday defeated Samoa 38-19 to have three wins out of three at the Rugby World Cup, taking a step closer to the quarterfinals with 14 points.
In a Pool A match at the Toyota Stadium in the central Japan city of Toyota, Aichi Prefecture, the Brave Blossoms reached the half-time break 16-9 after a try by Timothy Lafaele.
Japan added three tries, including one by Kotaro Matsushima, in the second half, earning a bonus point. The 14 points are the biggest World Cup points Japan have won so far.
Head coach Jamie Joseph said he is really proud of the team.
Even though there was pressure, the team had a lot of discussions on tactics and prepared themselves fully, he said.
