Yokohama, Oct. 8 (Jiji Press)--Nissan Motor Co. <7201> said Tuesday that it has appointed Senior Vice President Makoto Uchida, 53, as its new chief executive officer.
The appointment came after Hiroto Saikawa resigned as president and chief executive officer of the major Japanese automaker last month over a pay scandal.
Ashwani Gupta, 49, chief operating officer of Mitsubishi Motors Corp. <7211>, a domestic alliance partner of Nissan, was named Nissan's COO, and Nissan Senior Vice President Jun Seki, 58, was picked as vice COO to support Gupta.
Nissan hopes that the appointments will take effect on Jan. 1, 2020, at the latest.
At a press conference at Nissan's head office in Yokohama, south of Tokyo, Masakazu Toyoda, head of the nomination committee at the company, said that the appointment of Uchida was decided unanimously.
