Tokyo, Oct. 9 (Jiji Press)--Sony Corp. <6758> has said it will launch next-generation video game console PlayStation 5 in time for the year-end shopping season in 2020.

PlayStation 5 will be the first new machine of the PlayStation series in seven years. It will have a high processing capacity to deal with 8K ultrahigh-definition images. Its price has not been announced.

The new machine will feature "two key innovations" with controllers, Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc. President and Chief Executive Officer Jim Ryan said in a statement Tuesday.

One is "haptic feedback" to replace the existing controller vibration function. "You can even get a sense for a variety of textures when running through fields of grass or plodding through mud," the SIE chief said.

The other is called "adaptive triggers," which will allow players to "feel the tactile sensation of drawing a bow and arrow or accelerating an off-road vehicle through rocky terrain," the statement said.
