Powerful Typhoon to Slam Central, Eastern Japan Sat.-Sun.
Tokyo, Oct. 10 (Jiji Press)--Big and powerful Typhoon Hagibis is forecast to make landfall in central or eastern Japan from Saturday afternoon to the early hours of Sunday, the Japan Meteorological Agency said Thursday.
With the regions likely to be hit by heavy rain, strong winds and high tides, the agency is calling on people to make preparations to secure their safety as soon as possible.
The 19th typhoon of the year is expected to reach off the Sanriku coastal area of the Tohoku northeastern region on Sunday morning and later travel to northeast of the northernmost prefecture of Hokkaido.
East Japan Railway Co. <9020>, known as JR East, said Thursday that it may decide to halt in advance Shinkansen bullet train and other railway services on Saturday and Sunday due to the approach of the typhoon. The company will announce the decision once it is made.
Seibu Railway Co. and Odakyu Electric Railway Co. <9007> also said they may decide on similar scheduled suspensions of their train services.
