Toyota to Launch New Mirai FCV in Late 2020
Tokyo, Oct. 11 (Jiji Press)--Toyota Motor Corp. <7203> will unveil a prototype of its new Mirai fuel cell vehicle at the Tokyo Motor Show starting in late October, with the release of the new model slated for late 2020 in Japan, the United States and Europe.
The new vehicle will be made by fully remodeling the current Mirai, which was launched in 2014. The leading Japanese automaker has so far sold 10,000 Mirai cars in the world.
The cruising range of the next-generation Mirai, to be equipped with an all-new fuel cell system, will increase about 30 pct from some 700 kilometers of the current model.
"We aim to lead a hydrogen society with this vehicle," Yoshikazu Tanaka, Toyota chief engineer for the development of the new Mirai, said.
