Tokyo, Oct. 11 (Jiji Press)--Major Japanese trading house Itochu Corp. <8001> said Friday that it will launch tourism operations targeting rich Chinese visitors to Japan.

With such tourists' destinations expanding from urban areas to rural regions, Itochu has concluded a business tie-up agreement with Ringbell Co., a Tokyo-based catalog house with an extensive network across the country.

Itochu also plans to come up with new tour plans by using Thailand's Charoen Pokphand Group Co.'s network of wealthy Chinese people. Itochu and the Thai company are in a capital and business alliance.

Moreover, Itochu is considering opening a virtual shop on Fliggy, an online travel platform run by Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holdings Ltd.

Chinese visitors spent 1,537 billion yen in Japan in 2018, for the largest share in overall foreign visitors' spending of about 4,506.4 billion yen, according to data from the Japan National Tourism Organization.
