BOJ Keeps Economic Views on 8 of 9 Regions Unchanged

Tokyo, Oct. 15 (Jiji Press)--The Bank of Japan kept unchanged its economic views on eight of the country's nine regions in a quarterly report adopted at a meeting of its local branch heads on Tuesday.

The views remained the same for all regions excluding Hokkaido, northernmost Japan, for which the central bank painted a brighter picture.

However, the regional economies are thought to be in a tough spot due to uncertainty over the world economy and the damage from powerful Typhoon Hagibis on many parts of Japan.

The 19th typhoon of the year caused "tremendous damage to logistics," said Tokiko Shimizu, head of the BOJ branch in Nagoya, the capital of Aichi Prefecture, central Japan.

At a press conference, she said she will pay close attention to see how the damage will affect production and exports in the central Japan region, which hosts many automobile-related companies including Toyota Motor Corp. <7203>.
