Tokyo, Oct. 16 (Jiji Press)--Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Wednesday pledged to make all-out efforts to address the issue of aging infrastructures in the wake of deadly Typhoon Hagibis.
"It is extremely important to maintain, manage and update infrastructure appropriately," Abe told a meeting of the Budget Committee of the House of Councillors, the upper chamber of the Diet, Japan's parliament.
He made the remark in reply to a question from Daisaku Hiraki of Komeito, the coalition partner of Abe's ruling Liberal Democratic Party.
The 19th typhoon of the year caused landslides and flooding in many parts of Japan last weekend.
"We'll continue discussions to secure financial resources for measures to tackle the issue of aging infrastructure, an urgent task," Abe added.
