Tokyo, Oct. 17 (Jiji Press)--The Japanese government is considering putting off a parade slated for Tuesday to celebrate Emperor Naruhito's enthronement, it was learned Thursday.
It is mulling the postponement of the "Shukuga-Onretsu-no-Gi" parade after powerful Typhoon Hagibis caused heavy damage to wide areas in central and eastern Japan last weekend, informed sources said.
In the parade, a new convertible carrying Emperor Naruhito, who ascended the throne on May 1, and Empress Masako is slated to travel about 4.6 kilometers from the Imperial Palace in Tokyo's Chiyoda Ward to the Akasaka Estate in neighboring Minato Ward, where their residence is located.
