Toshiba Unit to Supply 68 Electric Locomotives to Taiwan
Tokyo, Oct. 17 (Jiji Press)--Toshiba Infrastructure Systems & Solutions Corp. said Thursday it has won an order worth about 40 billion yen from the Bank of Taiwan, a commercial lender, for the supply of 68 electric locomotives.
The locomotives will be used to haul intercity express trains of Taiwan Railways Administration, according to the fully owned unit of Japanese machinery giant Toshiba Corp. <6502>. Toshiba Infrastructure Systems plans to start deliveries in 2022.
TRA will introduce new-model electric locomotives for the first time since 1992, and this will be the first time for the Taiwanese railway operator to use such vehicles manufactured by a Japanese company.
Toshiba Infrastructure Systems has supplied electrical equipment for more than 700 TRA train cars.
