Toyota to Release Supersmall EV in Winter 2020
Tokyo, Oct. 17 (Jiji Press)--Toyota Motor Corp. <7203> said Thursday it will release in winter 2020 a supersmall electric vehicle mainly for use by elderly people to travel short distances.
The automaker will showcase the new EV model at the Tokyo Motor Show, set to begin on Oct. 24.
The two-seater can travel up to some 100 kilometers on a single battery charge. Its maximum speed is 60 kilometers per hour.
The model is 2.49 meters long and 1.29 meters wide, even smaller than a minivehicle with an engine displacement of up to 660 cc.
"We hope to offer freedom of transportation to elderly people and create a means of transportation that supports energetic daily lives," Toyota said.
