Japan Industry Min. Sugawara Offers to Resign
Tokyo, Oct. 25 (Jiji Press)--Japanese industry minister Isshu Sugawara tendered his resignation on Friday, after a weekly magazine reported that a secretary of Sugawara offered condolence money at a funeral in his constituency possibly in violation of the public offices election law.
Sugawara submitted his letter of resignation to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. If the resignation is accepted, Sugawara will become the first minister of the Abe administration to step down since the cabinet reshuffle on Sept. 11.
The resignation that came after only about a month following the cabinet shake-up looks certain to deal a blow to the Abe administration, pundits said.
